Understanding Battery SOH and EverExceed’s Reliable Solutions
13 Sep 2025

1. What is SOH and How is it Estimated?

The State of Health (SOH) of a battery represents its overall condition compared to the initial performance when it was new. EverExceed lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) batteries are designed with advanced Battery Management System (BMS) technology, making SOH monitoring accurate and reliable.

The calculation is mainly based on two methods:

  • Capacity Comparison Method
    SOH = Current capacity ÷ Initial capacity × 100%
Example: If a 100Ah EverExceed battery has 80Ah available capacity, the SOH is 80%.

  • Internal Resistance Estimation Method
As batteries age, internal resistance increases. EverExceed’s BMS continuously tracks resistance changes to provide precise SOH estimation.

2. Can a Battery Still Be Used When SOH = 80%?

Whether an EverExceed LiFePO₄ battery with SOH = 80% is still usable depends on the application:

  • Electric Vehicles (EVs):
80% is typically the retirement standard, but the battery can still serve low-speed or short-range vehicles.

  • Energy Storage Systems (ESS):
EverExceed batteries can continue working until SOH decreases to around 40–60%, provided system parameters remain stable.

  • Second-Life Utilization:
With EverExceed’s professional ladder utilization solutions, EV-retired batteries (SOH 80–40%) can be repurposed for stationary energy storage, maximizing their value before recycling.

3. Key Indicators for Battery Availability

SOH alone is not enough. EverExceed recommends a comprehensive evaluation based on:

  • Voltage Consistency:
If the voltage difference between cells exceeds 0.15V, balancing is required. EverExceed BMS ensures effective equalization.

  • Internal Resistance:
When internal resistance grows to 150% of its initial value, safety and efficiency decline. EverExceed monitoring technology helps detect this in advance.

  • Cycle Life:
EverExceed LiFePO₄ batteries are engineered for long cycle life (up to 6000+ cycles). When SOH ≤ 80%, replacement or secondary application should be considered.

4. Conclusion

With EverExceed’s advanced battery technology and reliable BMS, users can clearly understand and manage SOH to maximize both safety and service life.

  • Normal capacity decline (Path 1): EverExceed LiFePO₄ batteries with SOH at 80% can still be effectively used in scenarios like energy storage, low-speed EVs, or backup power.

  • Abnormal degradation (Path 2): EverExceed experts recommend timely inspection, maintenance, or module replacement to ensure system reliability.

By choosing EverExceed, customers not only gain long-lasting battery performance but also a trusted partner for energy storage, electric mobility, and sustainable second-life utilization.
