Misconceptions about the impact of weather on Solar modules
31 Aug 2021

Despite solar energy becoming more accessible and a more common method for powering homes, offices;  there are still plenty of people out there who believe the misconception that solar panels only work in parts of the country where the weather is sunny and agreeable year-round. Solar energy is far more adaptable than some people think, especially when it comes to production in variable weather. Despite solar energy becoming more accessible and a more common method for powering homes, offices  there are still plenty of people out there who believe the misconception  that solar panels only work in parts of the country where the weather is sunny and agreeable year-round. Solar energy is far more adaptable than some people think, especially when it comes to production in variable weather.

Misconceptions about the impact of weather on Solar Modules:

Misconception #1: Rainy weather is not helpful for solar panels

In some cases, during rainy weather the power generation might reduces little bit. But it totally depends how much the rain took place and how dark the cloud cover is. But on a positive side, rain can help to improve the performance of the solar panels by washing away dirt, dust or pollen.

Misconception #2: Solar panels might not withstand hail, hurricane etc.

It’s true that extreme weather events can cause damage. But keep in mind, EverExceed do extensive testing on the effects of weather like hail and have found it takes VERY severe weather to harm the panels to the point of malfunction. In most cases, solar panels endure everything nature pelts them with, even violent storms and extreme winds. In all likelihood, the system would endure thunderstorms, windstorms, hailstorms, and heavy snow without sustaining any damage at all. Most importantly, all the suppliers need to obtain the TUV/UL certification. This TUV/UL certification gives the conformity to withstand most harsh environments.

Misconception #3: Solar panels don't perform well installed in the cold climate

This is myth is close to none though, the biggest fallacy known to PV technology. The truth is, solar panels extract energy from light, not heat. So cold weather has little to do with how well your solar installation functions. In the Mid-Atlantic region and other areas of the world prone to freezing temps, as long as the sun is shining on the panels, it’ll be generate energy anyway.

Misconception #4: It's not wise to deploy solar panels on the heavy snow prone area
Solar panels and snow can co-exist. The amount of energy is extracted from the solar installation in snowy locales is almost entirely based on the quality of panels and how they’re installed. The best panels are designed to handle extreme variations in temperature in both hot and cold climates. If the panels are installed properly, then the snow will melt faster than usual time.

Misconception #5: Solar panels can be damaged on wind

A high-quality solar installation should not be any more affected by strong winds. EverExceed test every type of local wind patterns and are try to comprise of components that have also been tested against extreme wind loads.

Misconception #6: All TUV/UL-certified solar panels perform the same in extreme weather condition
Nope. Unfortunately, TUV/UL certifications only designate that a solar panel manufacturer has met the minimum requirements when it comes to testing. It’s up to the buyer to do a little extra probing. Inquire as to what the provider does in the way of testing beyond TUV/UL certifications. Based on it, the performance of solar panels can be differ as well in extreme weather condition.
