Background
This project involved the customization of a battery charger for a substation equipment replacement project in Peru. The charger provides DC power to operate various high-voltage switches and ensures reliable backup for relay protection and emergency lighting. By meeting the power requirements for both normal and emergency operations, the charger plays a critical role in the substation’s energy management and operational efficiency.

Custom Design Highlights

• 12-Pulse Design: Two three-phase six-pulse rectifier bridges deliver smoother DC output, reduce input harmonics, and improve power factor for stable operation.
•  Redundancy Function:Advanced parallel load-sharing allows one charger to automatically take over if another fails, ensuring system stability and continuous operation.
• Intelligent Multi-Level Alarm Protection: Built-in fault detection and alarms cover AC/DC under/over-votage, battery faults, and grounding issues, protecting both system and batteries.
• LED Status Indicators: Front-panel LEDs provide clear indications of charger status and faults, ensuring easy monitoring and rapid troubleshooting.
• High-Altitude Design: Optimized airflow and component derating allow stable operation up to 3850 m, supporting low-pressure and low-temperature environments.
• Manual Battery Discharge Test: Allows voltage monitoring during discharge to detect rapid drops, identifying faulty batteries for timely replacement.
• Cabinet Customization: RAL2004 orange color, internal LED lighting activated on door open, ensures full visibility and efficient maintenance.
• Custom Communication Protocol: Supports DNP3.0 for broad compatibility, remote monitoring, and device control,enhancing operational efficiency.                                                                 

Function and Protection

• Alarm Functions: Detects AC over/under voltage, DC under voltage, battery under voltage, and battery grounding faults, ensuring system safety.
• Protection Functions:  Includes overcurrent, fuse, short-circuit, and overload protection, safeguarding the charger and connected equipment.
• Monitoring Data Logging: Tracks output DC voltage/current, equalization voltage, float voltage, etc.Stores alarm events for easy review and download anytime.
• Panel Indication: Intelligent touchscreen with clear alarm, operation, and power indicators for intuitive monitoring and control.
• Communication: Supports RS232 and Modbus RTU for seamless integration and remote monitoring
• Design service life: Engineered for up to 200,000 hours of reliable operation under proper maintenance, ensuring long-term system stability.
